On author appearances

I'm thinking I should probably have an author's appearance sometime soon, to correspond with the early stages of Christmas shopping season. I've only had one so far this year--probably my lowest number since I first got published.

What do you think? I haven't contacted anyone about it yet, but I'd imagine something could be set up to benefit my host. And do you prefer your author appearances to be just book signings, or something else, such as readings or Q&A's?

  1. I suppose a reading would be preferable.

    1. I agree ... if you expect people to leave the comfort of their homes for you, they should expect to be entertained.

  2. I don't do signings anymore, and never did readings. I remember once, being asked to speak at the St. Louis Writers Guild. They suggested a reading. I said no.

I do like group signings, though. They can be great fun. I once did a 21-Author signing at a B. Dalton. We had fun and sold a lot of books.

    1. I've done a couple of readings now, which is a big advance for me from my school years when I could barely raise my voice in front of friends, let alone a crowd.
