Worst Home Maintenance Fail Ever

When I opened my Blogger account this morning, I found that all my visitor stats had disappeared. (They popped back into existence a few hours later, having apparently undergone some kind of existential crisis. I've been there.)

One would be tempted to blame Blogger, or the internet in general. However, in the last two days I've broken a brand new pipe wrench, a washing machine, a copper water pipe, a vent hood, my back, and the entire water supply to my house. Can't speak for the new water heater: I haven't advanced to the point of igniting the pilot.

So for the moment I'm not prepared to blame anyone else for stuff going wrong in my  vicinity.

On an all-too-related note, you might not be hearing from me for a few days.

This photo is from my chimney demolition, which led to a broken sledge hammer, smashed ladder, and big hole in the ground.

  1. If you have all those items "broken" and not usable, it looks like (to this skinflint) it would be less expensive to hire such work done. Just a thought. I know how much a new washer costs, after 16 years I had to buy one.

    1. Most of that stuff would have been broken by a professional too -- it's just the nature of this old, junky house. But as far as the washer, it's about forty years old, and when we bought it for fifty bucks needed only a new belt to get it going again, so we definitely got our money out of it.

  2. At least you're alive to write about it. Be careful! 😎

  3. At this point, it might be preferable to hire someone!

    1. Too late! Although I did get some relative help.

  4. My husband is an awesome do-it-yourselfer. Maybe I should send him over. Hell, my oldest daughter works maintenance at an apartment complex and loves her job. I'll see if she's free.

    1. We've got it taken care of now, but I appreciate the offer! :-) My brother is also an awesome do-it-yourselfer, but he just started chemo for lung cancer. I didn't tell him about this because I didn't want him to insist on coming over anyway, which is exactly what happened when he found out. I should have known better: He lives for doing this kind of stuff and hasn't had any adverse reaction to the treatments yet, so he had the time of his life fixing my screw-ups.
